The Benefits of Meditation Techniques in Yoga

It may be taxing to talk about yoga in this century. It is a pity that modern day globalization has caused this amazing ancient art to be viewed as a distant and mysterious concept. Many would choose to describe yoga as a simple philosophy to help people gain a better understanding.

The contents of yoga are exceptionally intricate and thus westerners may find it hard to understand. It is disturbing to see a lot of people obtaining shallow understanding of this complex subject and yet remaining unhesitant to talk about it from an expert’s point of view. To simplify things, most westerners choose to emphasize the physical aspects of yoga, while neglecting the more important issues such as the state of mind. The rich philosophies behind yoga practice have been reduced into a simple form of art that focuses merely on achieving inner balance and peace.

This unique practice is actually a religious journey, a representation of one of the Hindu schools of thought. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. Most westerners would describe yoga as a physical practice.

The strange symbols related to the yoga practice have created some awareness among the westerners that there is more to yoga than the physical aspects, but they are often misunderstood. Ironically, it is practiced as a popular form of sports. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well.

The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. Fatal errors have been detected in the practice of yoga outside of India, showing the level of misunderstanding among the western practitioners. Different groups practicing yoga have its own cultural structure and these influences are responsible for those fatal errors detected in the practice of this ancient art.

Apparently, the west is not prepared to spend too much time in meaningful contemplations of this philosophy, hence the resulting fatal error due to a lack of understanding. Sometimes, the most important part of this practice is neglected, for instance the essential meditation techniques. Westerners have different goals and priorities, and the insatiable desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth certainly has no place in the system of values among the Hindus. Therefore, it is believed that the westerners will never reach the pinnacles of true wisdom dictated by the parameters of the Hindu religion.

One needs to possess both time and patience to fully reap the rewards of a successful meditative session. The westerners do not view investment in such contemplative moments for the attainment of philosophical wisdom to be beneficial. It places high degree of importance in the mere acquisition of wealth and power.

Yoga is practiced more as a form of recreational activity to fulfill a stylish lifestyle. There is a lot of information going out promoting yoga as a form of sports; in fact you can grab any of those and start practicing yoga anywhere you want to. Fans of famous people who later become fake gurus are adamant about supporting their idol and his practice. This crooked philosophy has been widely spread by its loyal followers.
