You have come to the right place if you want to find out more about canvas painting. This article offers you tips you need to know about canvas painting. This article also gives you tips on what you should not do in order to avoid certain mistakes made by most beginners. So, why not you get ahead and start reading. These are the tips that I can provide you with so that you can start canvas painting without a doubt.
The first and most important thing that you should have before you start painting is that; you need to have a canvas. A canvas can be bought from an art shop or even a large bookstore. There are may canvases available but as beginners, suggest that you stick to cotton canvases. However, do look out for cotton canvases that are quite thick. This is important as thin cotton canvases may not be able to support the ‘weight’ of the many layers of paint. You should also get an easel.
Different type of paint also gives a certain feel to a painter. An acrylic paint differs from water colours and oil paint is also different from acrylic paint. Yes, you get the drift. Most painter, beginners and professionals usually use acrylic paint or oil paint. However, as a beginner, it is simpler and less messy if you use acrylic paint. In order to reduce wastage of paints, you should put the amount that you need on a palette.
The next thing on the list is your brushes and paint. It is advisable for beginners to use acrylic paint rather than oil based paints as they are easier to dry and less complicated to use. You should use a thin brush for small areas and a thicker brush for bigger areas. It is always better to find a good quality brush as you do not want to waste money buying brushes over and over again. A brush that can be considered good quality is a brush made from a horse’s tail. However, you may fin it difficult to find it and it may be quite costly too.
One more thing that you should not forget: Turpentine or thinner. Your first masterpiece will definitely create a substantial amount of mess and there will be paint on the floor and maybe even on your hands.
The last thing you should get is a bottle of turpentine or thinner. Let’s face it. It is you first time painting and it would not be very clean. It’ll be a mess! A bottle of turpentine or thinner will help you get rid of the hard to remove stains easily.
Now that you are armed with this information, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and let that creative juices flowing. Get a canvas and some paint and start canvas painting. Try canvas painting with your family and friends too! You’ll never know if you’ll be the next Picaso. Good luck!
